Sunday, Dec. 1: At 2:50 am a deputy assisted an Iowa State Patrol trooper with securing a vehicle on Highway 30 at R Ave east of Jefferson after the trooper arrested Erin Elizabeth Cain of Boone for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.* At 10:14 am a deputy was advised of a careless and erratic driver on Highway 30 eastbound from County Road N-65 west of Scranton. The driver was evaluated and later released. At 2 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with a shoplifter that was arrested at Dollar General. At 3:47 pm a deputy assisted the Iowa State Patrol with a two vehicle accident that occurred at A Ave and 250th St on the Greene/Carroll County line in Scranton Township. At 7:45 pm a deputy was advised of cattle on the roadway in the 1700 block of County Road E-26 in Hardin Township. The owner of the cattle was notified.

Saturday, Nov. 30: At 10:37 am a deputy and the Grand Junction fire and rescue squad were dispatched to a vehicle fire in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. A 1999 Chrysler Town and Country minivan owned by Diane McClintock of Grand Junction erupted in fire soon after she had parked the vehicle at her residence. The minivan sustained an estimated $4,000 damage. At 11:22 am a deputy was advised of several bikes found hanging from trees along the Raccoon River Valley Trail near Winkelman Switch. The bikes were removed and taken to the impound lot in Jefferson. At 1:02 pm a deputy investigated a reported threatening and harassing letter that had been placed on a vehicle at a residence in the 1500 block of 195th St in Hardin Township. At 6:30 pm a deputy was dispatched to a report of illegal dumping in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. A privately owned dumpster was being used by the public for dumping refuse. The deputy advised several persons it was a private dumpster and not to be used by the public. At 7:43 pm a deputy checked a second report of illegal dumping in the same dumpster. A rocker/recliner that had been placed at the curb for removal was inadvertently placed on the wrong property. At 11:50 pm a deputy checked the report of a driver attempting to drive a vehicle out of the ditch on Highway 4 near 300th St in Franklin Township. The vehicle was not located by the deputy upon his arrival.

Friday, Nov. 29: At 10:45 am a rural Greene County resident reported at the LEC that his dog was missing. He believed it was taken from his residence. At 4:30 pm, a rural resident in the 1100 block of R Ave in Hardin Township called the Law Enforcement Center to advise a deputy of a stray dog. The dog was later identified as the dog reported missing earlier in the day. The owner was notified as to the location of his dog. At 6:17 pm a deputy checked the report of multiple gun shots being fired in the 500 block of 195th St in Kendrick Township. The deputy did not hear shots upon his arrival.

Thursday, Nov. 28: At 11:35 pm the Carroll County sheriff’s office advised dispatchers of an erratic and careless driver entering Greene County from Carroll County on Highway 30. A deputy located the driver and initiated a traffic stop on that vehicle at County Road P-33 west of Grand Junction. The deputy subsequently arrested Brenda Rice Sutherland of Des Moines for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.*

Wednesday, Nov. 27: At 4 pm several deputies assisted a probation officer with making sure a Scranton resident was compliant with his probation requirements. At 4:22 pm a deputy investigated a trespassing complaint in the 700 block of Locust St in Scranton. At 11:41 pm three deputies assisted a Jefferson police department with transporting three juveniles to the LEC who were charged with minor in possession of alcohol.

Tuesday, Nov. 26: At 3:19 pm a deputy was asked to investigated three letters that had been received by a Scranton resident requesting payment for items she did not ask for nor receive. At 4:19 pm a deputy assisted a juvenile court officer with an order to find and transport a juvenile that had run away from her Grand Junction home. The juvenile was found and transported to the LEC for further placement.

Monday, Nov. 25: At 6:55 am a deputy was advised of cattle out along the roadway in the 1100 block of Highway 30 west of Jefferson. The owner was notified as to the location of the cattle. At 1:05 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported harassment complaint at a residence in the 900 block of County Road E-33 in Bristol Township. The complaint is under investigation by the deputy at this time.

Sunday, Nov. 24: At 1:48 pm a deputy checked the report of cattle along the roadway at County Road E-26 and Q Ave in Hardin Township. The owner was advised of the situation and returned the cattle to the pasture.

Saturday, Nov. 23: At 6 pm a deputy was advised of trespassing on private property in the 900 block of County Road E-33 in Bristol Township. The deputy is investigating the ownership of the vehicle described.

Friday, Nov. 22: At 5:39 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on Highway 25 at County Road E-63 in Willow Township involving Bobby Sue Onken of Carroll. Onken was northbound on Highway 25 when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck. Damage to Onken’s 2010 Saturn Outlook was estimated at $5,500.

Thursday, Nov. 21: At 4:56 am a deputy responded to a one vehicle accident involving Dennis Ray  Hagen of rural Jefferson. Hagen was northbound on County Road P-14 between 250th St and County Road E-53 in Jackson Township when he struck a calf on the roadway. Due to the dense fog at the time Hagen was not traveling fast and he was not injured. Hagen’s Ford F-150 pickup truck sustained little or no damage. At 11:01 am a deputy was advised of a minor two vehicle accident that occurred just south of Jefferson on Highway 4. The drivers exchanged insurance information and left the scene. Raymond Lee Teague of Rockwell City was northbound driving a 2001 Mack semi tractor-trailer owned by Farmers Cooperative Co of Farnhamville when a car side swiped the truck. Deborah Dawn Yeager of Menlo was southbound driving a Volvo 940 when she made contact with the truck. No one was injured and no citations were issued as both vehicles had left the scene. Damage to the truck was estimated at $800. The Volvo received minor damage to the mirror. At 12:30 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police with traffic control at a one vehicle accident on the railroad overpass in Jefferson. At 12:57 pm a deputy was dispatched to a one vehicle accident on the Highway 30 railroad overpass east of Grand Junction. Barbra Meyer of Ames was eastbound when she struck the cable guard rail. Meyer was not injured. She told the deputy that due to icy conditions she could not avoid sliding into the rail. Her 2006 Toyota Corolla received damage estimated at $7,500 to the passenger side.

Wednesday, Nov. 20: At 7:03 am a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on County Road E-18 at County Road N-65 in Cedar Township involving Michael Charles Linhart of Scranton. Linhart was northbound when the deer ran onto the roadway. Damage to Linhart’s 1995 Ford Taurus was estimated at $3,500. At 10:15 am a deputy was asked to issue a DNR salvage tag for a deer that had been struck by a car and was injured in the 1800 block 0f 283rd St in Washington Township. At 3:14 pm a deputy was advised of cattle grazing along Highway 144 near 150th St in Paton Township. The owner was notified and the deputy helped place the cattle back in the field. At 5:30 pm a deputy issued a DNR salvage tag for an injured deer on Highway 144 near 300th St in Washington Township.

Tuesday, Nov. 19: At 11:35 am a deputy was dispatched to a report of trespassing and vandalism to an unoccupied farm residence in the 1900 block of 230th St in Grant Township.  At 3:57 pm a deputy investigated the possible theft of a FedEx package from a residence in Grand Junction. At 3:55 pm a deputy was advised of a suspicious vehicle that was trespassing on private property near Alpine Ave. The deputy was given a description of the car. At 4:26 pm a deputy assisted with traffic control while a semi tractor-trailer hauling cattle was towed from the ditch in the 1500 block of W Ave in Junction Township.

Monday, Nov. 18: At 7:27 am the Greene County sheriff’s office, along with a Carroll County deputy, assisted the Jefferson police department, officers from the Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division and the Iowa State Patrol with the high speed pursuit of two juveniles who had stolen a car from Jefferson earlier in the morning and driven into Webster County. The pursuit by the DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement officer began near Slifer in Webster County and proceeded south into Greene County and subsequently ending in the 600 block of S. Olive St in Jefferson. One juvenile was taken into custody at that time. At 3:58 pm a deputy checked the report of a brush fire in the 1400 block of Kirkwood Ave in Jackson Township. At 4:239 pm a deputy responded to the report of cattle grazing along the roadway at 180th St and County Road P-14in Bristol Township. The cattle were located and the owner was informed of the situation. At 4:54 pm while on routine patrol a deputy checked a brush fire in Cooper. The owner of the property was advised to monitor the fire closely due to other buildings in close proximity. At 6:56 pm a deputy checked a second report of cattle out at the previous Bristol Township location. At 9:17 pm a deputy responded to the report of cattle on the road at County Road E-26 and Q Ave in Hardin Township. The owner was notified as to the situation. At 11;06 pm a deputy was advised of a suspicious vehicle being driven around Paton. The minivan was located and investigated by the deputy.

Sunday, Nov. 17: At 2:30 pm a deputy assisted a resident in the 100 block of P Ave in Dawson Township with a harassment concern and a civil issue.

Saturday, Nov. 16: At 6:01 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car deer accident on County Road E-39 just east of County Road N-65 in Kendrick Township. Michael Dean Hirschberg of Churdan was eastbound on E-39 when a deer ran from the north ditch, striking the driver’s side of his vehicle. Damage to the 2005 Pontiac Montana was estimated at $3,000.

Friday, Nov. 15: At 2:03 am while on routine patrol a deputy discovered several overhead electrical lines sparking at 110th St and P ave in Dawson Township. Midland Power was called and informed of the situation.

Thursday, Nov. 14: At 7 am the Greene County sheriff’s office began investigating the reported theft of a Case IH fall tillage, 5-shank ripper from Rueter’s Red Power in Grand Junction. The theft is under investigation. At 10:38 am fire units from Rippey, Grand Junction and Perry responded to a field fire in the 100 block of 300th St in Boone County. At 3:06 pm a deputy investigated harassing phone calls received by a rural Greene County resident in the 1200 block of County Road E-13 in Highland Township. At 7:40 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car deer accident on Highway 30 just east of County Road P-33 west of Grand Junction. A vehicle driven by Allen Alex Jet of Carroll was struck by a deer as it crossed the roadway. The 2010 Ford F 550 commercial pickup truck owned by Bauer Built Inc of Carroll sustained an estimated $2,500 in damage. At 8:02 pm a deputy was advised of a vehicle with its front wheels in the ditch at Highway 4 and Lakeland Ave in Highland Township. The vehicle was not operational. Upon the deputy’ arrival and subsequent investigation a juvenile passenger in the vehicle was arrested for having a blood alcohol content of .095.

Wednesday, Nov. 13: At 11:58 am Union Pacific railroad notified the sheriff’s office of cattle grazing along the railroad right of way near the Linwood Ave crossing west of Jefferson. The cattle were not located upon the deputy’s arrival. At 3:46 pm a deputy was advised of cattle out along the roadway at Quest Ave near 255th St in Grant Township. The owner was notified as to the location of the cattle.

Tuesday, Nov. 12: At 8:46 am a deputy was advised by a Greene County parks employee of illegal dumping of kitchen appliances near Adkins bridge on County Road E-57 near S Ave in Washington Township. At 3:55 pm a deputy was advised by a rural resident that her debit card number had been used in California to withdraw approximately $830 from her account. The identity theft is under investigation. At 4:01 pm two deputies were dispatched to County Road P-14 and 160th St in Bristol Township for the report of cattle walking down the roadway. The deputies located 40 head of cattle and put them back into the feedlot. At 4:55 pm a deputy was advised of cattle out near R Ave and 305th St in Franklin Township. The cattle were not located at that time. At 6:42 pm a deputy, while on routine patrol, found a calf walking along the roadway at County Roads P-30 and E-57 in Franklin Township. The owner was notified of the location of the calf. At 7:36 pm a deputy was advised of reckless driving by a juvenile on a moped in Scranton. The deputy is investigating the identity of the youth.

Monday, Nov. 11: At 11:58 am a deputy was advised of a possible violation of a no contact order in the 2000 block of 250th St in Junction Township. The possible violation is under investigation. At 3:11 pm a deputy was advised of a horse grazing along the roadway in the 1100 block of Highway 30 west of Jefferson. The owner was called and secured the horse. At 5:39 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on County Road N-65 just south of County Road E-19 in Cedar Township. Joseph Mark Minnehan of Churdan was southbound when a deer bounded into the passenger side of his vehicle. Damage to the 2001 Buick LeSabre was estimated at $3,500. At 6:26 pm a deputy was advised of criminal mischief to a car windshield in the 800 block of 210th St in Bristol Township.

Sunday, Nov. 10: At 4:26 am a deputy investigated a reported violation of a no contact order in the 2000 block of 250th St in Junction Township. Charges are pending further investigation. At 3:14 pm the Churdan fire department was dispatched to a farm field fire in the 400 block of 130th St in Cedar Township. It was reported that a ditch was being burned when the fire spread to an adjacent farm field. At 4:30 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported one vehicle rollover accident at the intersection of 260th St and County Road P-46 in Junction Township. Upon the deputy’s arrival the driver of the vehicle had left the scene. The car, which is owned by Brian Carter Warnke of Coon Rapids, was towed to the city impound lot in Jefferson. No damage estimate was available and the accident is under investigation.

Saturday, Nov. 9: At 12:37 pm several deputies and the sheriff responded to a reported structure fire in the 2100 block of County Road P-14 in Greenbrier Township. The Jefferson, Scranton and Bayard fire departments also responded to the fire. The steel storage shed and all its contents were a total loss. A dollar estimate is not available. owner is Lisa Diane Hansen, who lives at that address. At 2:50 pm a deputy was advised of cattle along the roadway on County Road E-26 west of Dana. The owner was located and advised of the cattle’s location. At 8;08 pm two deputies responded to the report of criminal mischief near the library in Scranton. No one was located in the area of the library upon the deputy’s arrival. At 10 pm a deputy responded to a reported domestic assault in the 2300 block of U Ave in Washington Township. The deputy subsequently arrested Steven Edward Hopkins of rural Rippey for domestic abuse assault aggravated.*

Friday, Nov. 8: At 5:27 pm a deputy was advised of cattle on the roadway in the 1700 block of County Road E-26 in Hardin Township. The owner was determined and informed of the situation. At 5:54 pm a deputy investigated a trespassing complaint in Grand Junction. The investigation is ongoing at this time. At 7:59 pm a deputy was advised of a trespassing complaint in the 300 block of County Road E-19 in Cedar Township. Upon the deputy’s arrival and investigation he did subsequently charge several juveniles with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor.*

Thursday, Nov. 7: At 8:39 am a deputy investigated damage to a building at N. 19th St and Railroad in Grand Junction. A pickup truck and trailer have been identified as the possible cause of damage to the siding on the building. Charges are pending further investigation. At 10:41 am a deputy was advised of shots being fired from the roadway in the 800 block of 205th St in Bristol Township. Upon further investigation by the deputy it was determined that fur trappers had shot a skunk that had been caught in a trap. At 11:06 am a deputy was advised of and investigated property damage to street surfaces in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, Nov. 6: At 8:30 am a deputy was asked to locate a deer that had been struck and injured on Tuesday evening near 185th St and V Ave in Junction Township. The deer was located and the deputy issued a salvage tag to a Greene County resident. At 5:47 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car deer accident on Highway 4 just north of 265th St, south of Jefferson. Alice Charlene Holmes of Jamaica was southbound when she struck a deer than had run onto the roadway. Damage to Holmes’ 2004 Saturn Ion was estimated at $4,000. The deer was severely injured and was put down by the deputy. At 7:34 pm a deputy and Greene County EMS personnel were dispatched to a one vehicle rollover accident that occurred on County RoadE-18 near P Ave in Dawson Township. Neil Edward McDowell, 21, of Jefferson was westbound on E-18 when he struck a bridge just west of P Ave, then drove into the north ditch, rolling the vehicle onto its side. McDowell told the deputy he had fallen asleep and was startled when he struck the bridge, causing him to drive into the ditch. McDowell was transported to Greene County Medical Center for evaluation. Damage to his 1997 Chevrolet Blazer was estimated at $4,000.

Tuesday, Nov. 5: At 3:54 am a deputy was requested to meet a Perry police officer at the Boone-Greene County line on Highway 141 to transport Trent Daniel Robinson of Jefferson back to Greene County after he was arrested in Perry on an outstanding Greene County warrant.* At 5:13 am a deputy and Churdan fire and rescue personnel responded to a one vehicle accident that occurred on County Road N-65 near the intersection of 177th St in Kendrick Township. Dustin Jackson Hartman of Fairbank was northbound when he struck seven 600-pound feeder calves that were on the roadway. Five of the calves were killed instantly and two others were put down a short time later. Hartman and a passenger, Alison Clara Hartman of Coon Rapids, were wearing seat belts and were not seriously injured. They refused further medical treatment. Hartman’s 2001 Monte Carlo SS was estimated to be a total loss. The calves were from a feedlot in Carroll County and had traveled eight or nine miles before being struck. The owner of the cattle reported to chief deputy Jack Williams that 200 head of western feeder calves he had just received had pushed the lot fence and escaped. As of 6 am Wednesday, approximately 60 head were still unaccounted for in Carroll and northwestern Greene County. At 8:58 pm a deputy and Churdan fire and rescue personnel responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of F Ave in Highland Township. The fire was contained to a small portion of a hog confinement building owned by Jonathan Minnehan. No animals were injured or destroyed due to the fire.

Monday, Nov. 4: At 12 pm a deputy was advised of the theft of a Burma Shave sign from along the roadway in the 1800 block of County Road E-53 east of Jefferson. At 2:55 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported overturned grain wagon at the intersection of 180th St and Jordan Ave in Bristol Township. The wagon, which is owned by Lindgren Enterprises of Jefferson, was full of corn at the time of the accident. A damage estimate for the wagon was not provided. At 3:50 pm several deputies assisted the Jefferson police department with a three vehicle personal injury accident on S. Elm at Greenewood Road in Jefferson. At 5:17 pm a deputy was dispatched to a two vehicle accident in Rippey. Keith Lavern Devilbiss of Rippey was westbound on Main St. Mark Samuel Kendall of Rippey stopped at the stop sign at Third St, then proceeded into the intersection and struck the side of Devilbiss’s car. There were no injuries. Kendall was cited for failure to yield to the vehicle on the right. Damage to his 2002 Ford F150 pickup truck was estimated at $750. Damage to Devilbiss’s 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis was estimated at $2,500. At 6:24 pm a deputy was advised of cattle on the roadway south of 255th St on Quaker Ave in Grant Township. The deputy spoke with the owner of the cattle and they were put back in the pasture.

Sunday, Nov. 3: At 5:50 pm sheriff’s deputies, members of the Jefferson, Churdan and Scranton fire departments, and concerned friends and neighbors helped search for a 13-year-old girl who had walked away from her home in the 1300 block of K Ave. She was found by a search team some three hours after her disappearance in a wooded area close to her home. She was cold but not hurt.

Saturday, Nov. 2: At 1:48 am a deputy was dispatched to V Ave and 330th St for the report of cattle on the roadway. At 4:04 am the sheriff’s office was informed by Carroll County dispatchers that a Carroll County deputy and emergency medical services and fire units from Coon Rapids had been sent to a reported one vehicle accident with personal injuries on A Ave near 330th St in Willow Township. A Guthrie County deputy and EMS from Bayard was also dispatched. The driver and a passenger were transported from the scene before the Greene County deputy’s arrival.  Michael Keith Klingenberg of Bayard was southbound when he reportedly fell asleep and entered the east ditch. The vehicle struck a farm field drive and pivoted 180 degrees, coming to rest facing north. The medical condition of Klingenberg and the passenger were not reported. His 1993 Dodge Durango was estimated to be a total loss. At 1:09 pm a deputy was dispatched to a one vehicle rollover accident on 160th St one-half mile west of S Ave in Dawson Township. Trey Darwin Tucker, 15, of Jefferson was westbound driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer owed by Timothy David Tucker when he lost control on loose gravel and rolled the vehicle into the south ditch. Tucker was not injured but the vehicle was estimated to be a total loss. The accident remained under investigation. At 8:38 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction for a reported assault. Upon the deputy’s arrival the two male suspects had left the area and were reported to be in Jefferson. Two JPD officers found and subsequently arrested Chance Michael Milligan of Jefferson and Zachary Dennis Milligan of Fort Dodge for assault-simple.*

Friday, Nov. 1: At 3:24 pm a deputy investigated a careless driving complaint in Dana. At 9:18 pm a deputy was advised that the Grand Junction fire department was dispatched to a vehicle fire at Neese Inc in Grand Junction. The fire was contained to a pickup truck parked in a shop area. A damage estimate and cause of the fire were not reported, although an electrical problem was suspected. At 9:27 p.m. a deputy investigated the report of harassing phone calls being placed to an out of state person by a Scranton resident.

Thursday, Oct. 31: At 9:06 am a deputy responded to a reported one vehicle property damage accident at  Casey’s General Store in Scranton involving Brian Bernard Pryor of Carroll, who was driving a 1999 GMC Sierra K1500 pickup truck owned by Pemble Digging and Drain Service Inc of Scranton. Pryor reported the brakes on the vehicle failed when he attempted to park beside the building, causing the truck to strike the side of the building. Damage to the truck was estimated at $750. Damage to the wall at Casey’s was estimated at $1,500. At 9:42 am a deputy assisted the JPD with a possible stolen vehicle call. At 2:27 pm a deputy was advised of a small brush fire in the 400 block of Irving St in Scranton. The owner of the property was asked to extinguish the fire due to the burn ban that was in effect. The burn ban was lifted Nov. 1 at 7 am. At 3:50 pm a deputy started investigating a hit and run accident reported by Tami Renae Minnihan in the 600 block of Jay St in Churdan. Minnihan’s 1999 Buick sustained major damage to the passenger side. Minnihan is not sure when or where the damage was done. At 4:49 pm, while still investigating the hit and run, deputies were informed by a Paton-Churdan school administrator of a possibly drunk parent in the school building to pick up her son. After investigation Melissa Ann Sanem of Churdan was arrested for operating while intoxicated (OWI)-third or subsequent offense, driving with license revoked, and driving while barred.*

Wednesday, Oct. 30: At 3:01 am dispatchers received an E-911 call that electronically mapped to a location in the 1300 block of 270 St. The caller stated he was south of Jefferson and had just been involved in a rollover accident but was unsure of his exact location. The caller then became unresponsive and was not able to communicate further. Deputies and a Jefferson police officer were dispatched to the area. Due to dense fog the deputy was able to locate the vehicle by seeing erratic tracks in the gravel road. The car was located in the north ditch. Jefferson fire department and Greene County EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene. Greene County EMS transported Zachary Eugene Sukovaty, 18, of rural Scranton to the Greene County Medical Center emergency room for treatment and further evaluation. The accident remains under investigation.  At 12:15 pm a deputy was advised of a dog running at large in Grand Junction. The dog was captured and transported to the animal shelter in Jefferson.
